Which Mountain Bike Is Right For You?
Mountain bikes are designed for off-road adventures, fitness and racing. All mountain bikes boast wide, knobby tires for increased stability on irregular terrain. But, there's a wide range of differences beyond this common denominator. We can help you make the right match based on your preferred riding style.
First, let’s take a quick peek into mountain biking’s history. The sport got its start in the 70s, and Trek designer and spokesperson Gary Fisher was there from the beginning. Indeed, Gary is one of the mountain biking's earliest pioneers and visionaries. (Get some fun facts about the legendary Mountain Bike Hall of Fame inductee here.)
Back then, Gary and his friends sent heavy, modified cruiser bikes (dubbed “klunkers”) down mountain service roads and trails. These thrill-seekers in fact staged what’s widely considered the very first downhill mountain bike race: the Repack Off-Road Downhill in Fairfax in 1976.
A lot has changed since those early days of mountain biking. The sport continued to grow in popularity, and bikes have evolved rapidly. Trek has been at the forefront of this movement, continually challenging the limits of the bicycle's capability.
Epicenter carries a full range of Trek mountain bikes because we believe Trek offers the very best technology, design, and value of all the brands out there. Each and every Trek mountain bike is chock full of features and details that will make your ride a blast.
Naturally, most Trek mountain bikes are designed to be versatile and perform effectively on a wide range of trails. However, to get the most enjoyment out of your bike, it’s important to consider your riding goal(s) and the type of terrain you’ll be riding on.
When choosing a bike, you'll consider questions like these: Hardtail or full suspension? 29er or 27.5"? Aluminum or carbon? Slack or steep geometry? This may sound like a different language to those new to the sport. Have no fear — we can interpret, and help you learn the lingo.
So, how can you discover which mountain bike is right for YOU? Start by determining what kind of riding appeals to you. Then click on the category or specific bikes to learn more!

It’s naturally lightweight, with lean components such as rigid seat posts and narrower handlebars. A cross country hardtail mountain bike will allow you to put down the miles with ease, and is also the ideal choice for riders aspiring to race cross country events … or each other.

Trek Hardtail Trail Bikes
If you value the simplicity of a hardtail (some front suspension; no rear shock), but are more about playing around on the trails than covering the most ground in the least time, a Trek hardtail trail bike (say THAT five times fast!) is right for you.
Trek hardtail trail bikes are versatile and capable, and feature geometry that’s slacker and lower than their cross country counterparts. That means these bikes feel more stable on the trail, especially at higher speeds or on steep terrain.
All in all, these models make an excellent choice for new riders who value a confidence-inspiring ride and for more experienced riders who measure the success of their rides in smiles over miles.

Trek Full Suspension Trail Bikes
Full suspension trail bikes feature suspension via a rear shock as well as the fork. Full suspension can help keep you in control and comfortable over rugged terrain, and allows for more capability and versatility. You can go faster on difficult trails with lots of obstacles, and you’ll experience increased stability in the bumps and while descending. If you’re a beginner rider, a full suspension bike will give you an instant confidence boost.
New technologies make these bikes more efficient than ever and they make a smart choice for all types of racing. Trek's suspension solutions have been proven and refined over the years.
